Faro expands its 3D measurement portfolio with new handheld 3D scanner

The HandyScan Black Elite Handheld 3D Scanner provides precision, flexibility, and CAM2 software integration

Faro, a business of Ametek and a 3D measurement, imaging, and realisation solution specialist, has added the HandyScan Black Elite Handheld 3D Scanner to its 3D measurement portfolio, becoming the first significant initiative in its alignment with Creaform

Now part of Ametek's Ultra Precision Technologies Division, alongside Creaform, Faro broadens its portable measurement range to better serve quality assurance, product development, and inspection applications.

The HandySCAN BLACK Elite is a metrology-grade scanner that delivers enhanced accuracy, speed, and ease of use across a wide range of part sizes, materials, and finishes.

The HandyScan Black Elite can deliver 0.025mm accuracy and 0.1mm resolution within a 200 to 450mm working distance, providing up to 1.3 million measurements per second with 22 blue laser lines and an additional deep-hole line.

When both the scanner and object move during measurement, dynamic referencing maintains precision, supported by ISO 17025-accredited calibration laboratories to ensure traceable, repeatable results that meet strict quality standards.

Features including smart resolution, automatic shutter adjustment, and optimised laser-line alignment enable performance on complex, high-contrast surfaces, while AI-driven target detection, real-time feedback, and live mesh visualisation simplify data acquisition, ensuring excellent scan quality with reduced effort. Advanced mesh enhancement algorithms automatically refine scan results, producing 3D data ready for processing.

Weighing only 2.1 lb, the HandySCAN BLACK Elite can decrease physical strain and operator fatigue, from the shop floor to the field. Its compact form factor enables storage in a standard suitcase for easier transportation and deployment.

Compatible with FARO’s CAM2 Software, the HandySCAN BLACK Elite lets existing FARO customers integrate the device into their familiar inspection workflows, and also supports other major metrology software.

The HandySCAN BLACK Elite is suitable for diverse industrial applications, including quality control, in-process and final inspection, reverse engineering, and non-destructive testing. Designed for flexibility and precision, it features AI intelligence and live feedback systems to help manufacturers improve process efficiency, decrease downtime, and accelerate production.
