Minexpo played host to ABB’s announcement of its new technology

NEMA motor manufacturer ABB has announced the launch of its advanced mining aggregate motor solutions at Minexpo on September 24th. The new ABB NEMA motors DP200 Cruch+ servere-duty motor is designed to perform in harsh environments and aims to raise performance and durability standards in crushers along with other critical applications.

Oscar Palafox, ABB NEMA Motors global portfolio product manager said “ABB has designed and manufactured the DP200 Crush+ motor to meet or exceed our customers’ needs for energy efficiency and reliability. The modular design offers a high level of flexibility for our customers and makes it easy to upgrade or retrofit existing systems in the field or implement future equipment designs and requirements.”

The motor is built on ABB’s SD200, three-phased motor platform allowing it to optimise performance, efficiency and long-term maintenance costs. It can produce high starting and breakdown torque and has a power range of 100 to 600 horsepower. Customisation is possible for the Crunsh+ to meet operational requirements, it comes in a cast-iron class H insulation and multi-position conduit box.

IEEE 841, API661 and NEMA Super Premium industry standards have all been met by the Crush+. The motor is available in a heavy-duty frame ranging from NEMA 440 to 580 sizes and has a high-strength 4140 steel shaft to protect against high-stress loads. This safeguards against dust, water, and other potential contaminants due to its IP65 ingress protection and non-contact labyrinth seals.

The conduit box allows for adjustable positioning and mounting options, creating ease of installation, options of 4- and 6-poles are available to create compatibility with 460V  and 575V at 60Hz, with 50Hz possible through customisation.

ABB ability smart sensor is compatible with the Crush+ to enable digital powertrain monitoring in hazardous environments. Safety is maximised through proactive maintenance of the ABB ability smart sensor. ATEX, IECEx and NEC500 certificates have been awarded for its durability and ability to withstand water, vibrations, explosive atmospheres, and dust.

Further safety is granted through full class H insulation and division two hazardous locations certification meaning it can be used in environments with flammable gases or combustible dust.
