Since 2003 it has been mandatory for all new equipment used in
explosive atmospheres to comply with the EU directive 94/9/EC otherwise
known as the ATEX Directive.
Traditionally Acetal was the only groundable plastic that was commercially
viable. This did not provide the range of applications and uses of the more
common Polypropylene models, but with the latter being an insulator rather
than a conductor, polypropylene was not safe for use in hazardous areas.
These new models provide the safety of groundable Acetal with the chemical
compatibility of Polypropylene. This new material will safely prevent the
pumps electro-static build-up by conducting away any charge through a
groundable earthing connection. This controlled feature makes the transfer
and supply of potentially flammable products such as solvents, inks,
lacquers and a wide range of chemicals, safe from the hazards of static
sparking.
Tests have been carried out by a Notified Body to determine the suitability
of the material. These test showed the conductivity to be well in excess of
the stated requirements, these included surface resistance tests and also
mechanical strength tests conducted at both minimum and maximum temperatures
of use for the material.
Available in groundable versions of the three main polypropylene models,
B15, B25 & B50.
