Kontron is launching the ePanel-PM SBC that offers scalable performance for applications such as mobile panel-PCs, webpads and test equipment
The ePanel-PM SBC (single-board computer) is Kontron’s latest Intel Pentium M-based piece of ‘flatware’ from the uFLAT series for the design of mobile panel-PCs or other low-profile systems such as webpads, test equipment, door and gate stations or rear-seat systems.
Kontron’s ePanel-PM is the logical development of the innovative flat panel SBC concept, with its ultra-flat design, which Kontron introduced four years ago with the ePanel-mgx and successfully carried over to the ePanel-C3. Based on the Intel Celeron M (ULV) or Pentium M (LV) processors, the computer board family is now available with scalable performance from 600MHz to 1GHz and up to 1.4GHz. Along with higher performance and, at the same time, lower energy consumption, the range of benefits includes USB 2.0 support, 100 Mb Ethernet, two COM and one LPT port, DDR-RAM up to 1GB, Ultra DMA support (now also for CF cards), and an optional mini-PCI interface integrated on the rear-side, as with earlier models. The board can control flat panels with resolutions up to UXGA.
The available software support for the proven x86-platform from Intel is practically unlimited. In addition to its low energy consumption, the ePanel-PM includes a large number of external interfaces such as 100Mb Ethernet, and three USB 2.0 ports, making it a completely independent, self-contained system.
An operating system can be loaded from a number of sources, including CompactFlash. The PC-card slot offers unrestricted use of wireless LAN, Bluetooth, or CAN-bus adapters, to name just a few. With an integrated wide-range DC power supply, the ePanel-PM is designed for use in a wide variety of environments, with supplies ranging from 8 to 28 volts. The smart-battery backup facility supports all standard battery types.
Besides the analogue VGA interface, interfaces for TTL and LVDS flat panels are already integrated and there is a touch and matrix controller.
An I/0 adapter, connected via flat foil cable, offers a customised housing design and the option of limiting the interfaces to those that are strictly necessary. With its compact dimensions of 180 x 140 mm, the ePanel-PM is exceptionally suitable for TFTs, starting with a screen size of 8 inches.
Along with the basic version, the ePanel-PM is also available in a version with NTSC/PAL video input, battery charger and mini-PCI interface. A complete starter kit – including 256MB DDRAM, CompactFlash card and all necessary cables – is also available.
