The two will explore the supply of auxiliary materials for green aluminium smelter and alumina refinery
AM Green and Mitsui & Co have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore a strategic collaboration and energy transition opportunities, and potential investment pathways across low-carbon aluminum
AM Green, through its wholly owned subsidiary, AM Green Aluminium Metals and Materials (AM Green Metals), is building a 1 million tonnes per annum (MPTA) primary aluminium smelter and 2 MPTA alumina refining and mining operations. In November 2025, AM Green and the Andhra Pradesh (AP) government signed an MoU to establish a 1 MTPA green aluminum complex in AP.
Both the aluminum smelter and the alumina refinery will be operated using renewable wind and solar energy, firmed up by pumped hydro storage. In May 2025, Coal India signed an MoU with AM Green to provide 4.5GW of renewable power to its verticals, including AM Green Metals.
Under AM Green’s MoU with Mitsui, the parties will evaluate potential investment in AM Green Metals’ value chain. The investment from Mitsui will support equity requirements to build the world’s first integrated green aluminium production platform.
AM Green and Mitsui will explore commercial and strategic opportunities, including:
- Offtake of low-carbon aluminium, including potential access to offtake rights associated with AM Green's green aluminium business
- Supply of auxiliary materials for green aluminium smelter and alumina refinery
Mahesh Kolli, founder, Greenko Group and AM Green, said, "AM Green is building globally competitive platforms across molecules and materials to enable industrial decarbonization at scale. We are pleased to partner with Mitsui to explore collaboration pathways that can accelerate low-carbon aluminium and expand market access for a wider set of green products."
