A national awareness week dedicated to exploring the role nuclear energy can play in Britain’s future will launch on 17th October 2026.
Back Nuclear Energy, sponsored by Wood, aims to bring together leading voices from industry, government, finance, academia and science to put nuclear firmly in the national conversation.
On this day, 70 years ago, HM Queen Elizabeth II officially opened Calder Hall in Cumbria, marking a defining moment in Britain’s industrial and energy history and the beginning of the UK’s civil nuclear era.
The UK now faces major questions about energy security, electricity demand, the transition to net zero, economic growth, skills and the infrastructure needed to power an increasingly electrified economy.
The organisation argues that Nuclear must play an important role in that conversation..
The week includes a programme of activity across Westminster and a free online conference, allowing interested parties to hear directly from leading figures across the nuclear and wider energy sectors.
