Automated guided vehicle (AGV) systems can optimise intralogistics and increase efficiency

A leading company in the packaging industry has adopted three transport robots from ek robotics vario move series to replace its previous system

ek robotics has implemented a customised automated guided vehicle (AGV) system in order to optimise intralogistics and increase the efficiency of the production processes.

Optimising hazardous goods container production

The company manufactures extrusion-blown plastic containers, including stackable hazardous goods canisters used in a range of industries.

The customer chose a new automation system from ek robotics to aid in meeting increasing demands for flexibility and productivity.

The three driverless transport vehicles were specifically designed for transport processes.

Counterweights and active hold-down devices have been equipped to the AGVs, which can stack plastic containers up to 2.8m high and weighing as much as 175kg.

Different pallet types, such as Euro, industrial, CP1, and CP3 pallets, can be picked up crosswise due to cantilevered fork arms.

The vehicles travel a 100m route using laser scanner technology, and they can reach their 16 transfer stations quickly and precisely.

To ensure reliable detection of people and obstacles, safety sensors continuously monitor the surroundings.

Future-proof fix for intralogistics

Ronald Kretschmer, Chief Sales Officer at ek robotics, said: “By combining standardised AGVs with targeted adaptations, we created the ideal long-term solution for efficient intralogistics in this application.”

The customer is already planning on expanding the automation solution further, integrating additional storage areas into the process.
