Fibron has installed 1,428 solar panels on its factory roof
Fibron Cable has been certified ISO 14001, an internationally recognised standard for environmental management systems, as a result of its efforts to reduce its environmental impact and provide more sustainably manufactured umbilicals and cables
As part of its efforts, the company has installed 1,428 solar panels on the roof of its factory, aiming to reduce carbon emissions by 118,093 kg each year, helping Fibron achieve its goal of becoming climate-neutral by 2030.
Phil Ashley, CEO of Fibron, said, "This is an important step towards our goal of Net Zero operations by 2030. We are giving our customers access to the most sustainably produced products, whilst still maintaining our lower-cost approach and not compromising on quality or lead times. Successfully managing the impact that our business has on the environment is an ongoing process. It’s a series of initiatives that drive sustainability, whilst at the same time making sure that the measures we are taking make us more competitive."
Fibron's initiatives
The company has introduced various waste separation and recycling initiatives, resulting in the amount of waste sent for recycling this year having increased by 129% compared to 2023.
All of Fibron's company cars are EVs, and the company has negotiated a deal to upgrade its forklifts to EVs, helping to reduce carbon emissions and improve air quality within the workspace.
The most significant investment is the installation of 1,428 solar panels on the factory roof, which has a forecast annual yield of 617,610kWh. This 714kWp system has a 25-year lifespan, in which it is estimated to save around 2,800,000kg of carbon. About 68% of the electricity will be generated on site, with the remaining to be exported to the national grid as green electricity.
