New fuse features 1500A interrupting rating at 277V

Industrial technology manufacturer Littlefuse has introduced its new Nano2-215 SMD Series Fuse, a surface-mount fuse featuring a 1500A interrupting rate at 277V. It has been designed for true buffering for 250V applications which have unpredictable voltage fluctuations.

The fuse fits into a compact SMD package allowing application in space-constrained scenarios. It has higher I²t values compared to competitive solutions to provide improved surge and pulse withstand capacity.

Features include industry leading interrupting rates which protect against high fault currents in critical applications, optimisation in fluctuating voltage environments, enhanced surge withstand capacity up, and a compact, surface-mount design.

Daniel Wang, senior director of product management of over current–passives at Littelfuse, said: “This new fuse, our first with a high 1500 A interrupt rating at 277 V, provides electronic designers using legacy through-hole solutions with an option to switch to an SMD part. By doing so, they can fully automate their assembly process, increasing production efficiency and reducing manufacturing costs.”

Consumer electronics such as power adapters, charger, and power supplies can all benefit from the new fuse as well as industrial systems such as inverters, converters, and instrumentation.

Automotive applications include electric vehicle charging stations, home chargers, and lighting capabilities whilst home automation can also benefit from automated garage doors and smart home systems.

Common household goods such as washers, dryers, and refrigerators can also use the new fuse to see improved results.

Superior surge withstand capacity makes the 415 Series a drop-in replacement option for other fuses, and acts as an alternatives to Littlefuse 215 Cartridge Series due to its higher voltage rating whilst replacing the existing through-hole cartridge fuse solutions.

Using SMD fuse allows electronic engineers to fully automate their manufacturing processes, creating faster workflows and production methods whilst reducing labour costs.
