Delta introduces new LFP battery system for cost-saving and risk management

Power and energy management company Delta unveils its new lithium iron phosphate  (LFP) cells battery system, built in a containerised energy storage system created for megawatt-scale energy storage applications. Rising construction costs, space limitations, safety issues, and risk management are addressed through this system which is designed for solar energy shifting and ancillary services.

A standard 10-foot container houses the new battery system to simplify installation processes with its enclosed cable design and positioning tolerance. Safety is ensured by using redundant sensors, fire-resistant materials, a built-in sprinkler system, and comprehensive monitoring of each battery cell.

Protection of the thermal runaway and system protection is provided by the rapid response to potential fire hazards with effective prevention of heat spread.

Jim Chen, vice general manager of Delta's Energy System Solutions Business said: "With the increasing scale of energy storage projects and the diversification of applications, owners' expectations for installation efficiency and system completeness will continue to rise."

New standards for flexibility, efficiency, and safety in the industrial environment are set by the battery system, with the capacity to be configured between 708kWh to 7.78MWh ranges. Site controllers, UPS, and other system components and be integrated with the battery solution.

Efficient on-site operation is granted due to the container's ability to be transported without removing battery modules. Flexible dust connectors between containers allow for positioning and prevent unneeded lifting. On-site installation is made more efficient with the use of lateral cable entries, meaning no trenches require digging.

Proactive cell-balancing technology is integrated into the system to improve battery stability by performing dynamic cell-balancing while charging and discharging. This improves the system's discharge capacity.
