Omron releases G7EB-E2 as an alternative to contractors

Electronic components manufacturer Omron has launched its new G7EB-E2 high-power PCB relay, a high-capacity variant of its wider G7EB series. The PCB relay has enhanced current carrying capacity and breaking capacity, being a reliable alternative to connectors whilst providing a low footprint and being cost-effective.

The G7EB-E2 is suitable for use up to 100kW at 3-phase 400VAC, 200k” at 3-phase 800VAC, and 7kW at 48VDC and can be used for applications using photovoltaic (PV) inverters, electric vehicle (EV) chargers and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS). It has a rating of 150A for continuous carry current and switching current.

Size-wise, the G7EB-E2 has the same dimensions and weight as its previous iteration the G7EB-, still having a contact gap of 3.6mm and a low contact resistance of 5m ohm. The PCB relay has the same footprint but provides more capacity.

Up to 100 operations at 480VAC and 30 operations at 800VAC can be offered after breaks at 150A. This makes the device good for providing safe and reliable system operations with an emergency stop function. This eliminates the need for breaking devices which allows the product design to be smaller and lighter.
Two variations of relay are available, with coil voltage variations of 12VDC and 24VDC.

Additional power cables can be reduced inside devices, freeing up space and simplifying design. This can also help speed up manufacturing processes and reduce component and unit costs.

The G7EB-E2 can potentially provide an option for PV inverter applications to connect and disconnect the main circuit from the utility grid. IEC 62109 requirements are met by the contact gap of 3.6mm.

Up to 50 to 10kVA outputs can be opened or closed for industrial UPS applications output to AC main circuits. This helps reduce failure chances and increases both safety and resilience between grid and load. It can also be applied to a 48VDC battery and power supply system to connect and disconnect from the DC supply safely.
