Improved ergonomics and more floorspace will support higher production capacity and shorter production cycles
Physik Instrumente (PI), a developer of high-precision positioning technology and piezo applications, has expanded its electronics manufacturing site in Rosenheim, Germany.
The €2.2m expansion focussed on extending floorspace, creating additional workspaces and production equipment and optimised the site’s logistics and ergonomics.
“With the expansion of the site, which has now been completed, we have created the basis for considerable efficiency gains, which are a decisive factor for the growth we intend to achieve, as well as for our successful positioning in the international marketplace,” said PI senior vice president of operations Dr Axel Widenhorn.
Nearly half of the expansion budget was allocated toward production and extending floorspace by 600 square metres, bringing the total floorspace to 2,100 square metres.
The overall investment has also provided integrated lighting in the production area and optimised air conditioning and ventilation. Areas with high temperatures and high noise levels have been kept separate.
Height-adjustable workbenches were also installed to accommodate employees of different heights.
The site’s new production technology and improved ergonomics will improve the efficiency of the site, supporting higher production capacity and shorter production cycles.
The lord mayor of Rosenheim Andreas März was present at the site’s celebrations following the completion of the expansion and congratulated PI.
“We see the importance of providing a good environment for high-tech companies such as PI, he said. "PI's investment in this site provides confirmation that we are on the right path in this respect."
Next year, PI’s Rosenheim site will continue with the next stage of its expansion, to which €1.7m have been allocated.
The Rosenheim site's expansion follows the expansion of PI’s Eschbach site, which used sustainable building and insulation materials, aiming to triple its capacity.
