Powder handling workshops from Wolfson Centre at the end of February

By Setform

The Bulk Solids Handling Technology department will hold the sessions

The Wolfson Centre for Bulk Solids Handling Technology will hold powder handling workshops between the 25th and 28th of February and will demonstrate how to use many different processes and pieces of specialist equipment to characterise and test powders.

Powder and particulate identification will be covered as well as why issues occur in handling. Particle strength, size, wear, flowability, dustiness testing will all come under the pilot plant. Some of the equipment on use is not currently available across the world.

Experts will be available to provide hands-on guidance for attendees throughout the sessions. Information on how to identify ways to prevent flow and handling issues will be taught to attendees.

Each workshop is unique and operates as a standalone session. The first will be on Tuesday the 25th, and is titled ‘Understanding Powder Flow’, being led by Dr Vivek Garg and Barry Ridley of Ametek. It will cover measuring techniques, case studies, testing, analysis and interpretation of data, and use of virtual tools.

Wednesday 26th will host a session named ‘Characterisation Techniques’ that will cover case studies, particle size analysis, particle shape analysis, density measurements, use of data to solve case studies, and use of virtual tools. This session will also be led by Dr Vivek Garg.

Thursday 27th is hosted by Dr Baldeep Kaur with the session named ‘Dust Containment Method and Filtration’. The session will go over dust emissions and dust extinction moisture measurements as well as filter media, particle size analysis with basis and volume basis, impact of degradation and segregation on dust generation, and measures to reduce dust generation in process.

The final session will be on Friday 28th and will over segregation methods. This encompasses measuring techniques, case studies, testing, use of virtual tools, analysis and interpretation of data.

PPE will be provided for all attendees on all courses. Full details can be found here on how to register. Courses begin at £485 per person, and options for group bookings are possible. Numbers are restricted for each session due to health and safety.
