Radiation-resistant LVDTs from NewTek to support nuclear power applications

The LVDTs come in three temperature ranges to support next-generation nuclear power

Newtek Sensor Solutions has launched Radiation-Resistant Linear Variable Differential Transformers (LVDTs) in various temperature ranges to meet the demands of nuclear power applications, including next-generation reactors that have increased thermal and radiation needs

Created using heat-resistant materials and specialised coatings, the Radiation-Resistant LVDTs can withstand up to 100 Mrad of total integrated flux. The sensors can remain reliable even after experiencing prolonged exposure to intense radiation.

The Radiation-Resistant LVDTs are available in three temperature ranges:

  • Standard range, 300°F, for general power generation applications, including valve position monitoring and structural deflection monitoring
  • High temperature range, 500°F, for hotter zones in power generation stations or specialised high-temperature environments
  • Extreme temperature range, 1000°F, for advanced nuclear systems, such as Molten Salt Reactors, and as a feature of LVDT-based pressure sensors for process control or control rods. These LVDTs have corrosion-resistant Inconel or Hastelloy housings that are compatible with molten salt environments.

The nuclear industry is advancing towards MSRs and Generation IV designs. NewTek's Radiation-Resistant LVDTs have been designed to meet the demands for durability, accuracy and real-time monitoring.
