Suitable for hazardous environments, this motor can withstand explosions, dust and water
Motor designer and manufacturer ABB Motors and Mechanical Inc has launched its DP200 Crush+ severe-duty motor while at MINExpo in Las Vegas.
Built on ABB’s SD200, three-phased motor platform, Crush+ is designed to operate in harsh environments, allowing crushers and other critical applications more performance flexibility. It meets industry standards including IEEE 841, API661 and NEMA Super Premium efficiency.
“ABB has designed and manufactured the DP200 Crush+ motor to meet or exceed our customers’ needs for energy efficiency and reliability,” said Oscar Palafox, ABB NEMA Motors global portfolio product manager. “The modular design offers a high level of flexibility for our customers and makes it easy to upgrade or retrofit existing systems in the field or implement future equipment designs and requirements.”
Crush + has a power range of 100 to 600 hp and is customisable for a variety of operational environments. It offers four and six pole options and compatibility with 460V and 575V at 60Hz, and further custom options for 50Hz.
The motor’s emphasis on safety can be seen in its cast-iron design, Class-H insulation and division two hazardous location certifications. Its IP65 ingress protection and non-contact labyrinth seals allow Crush+ to operate safely in industrial areas containing flammable gas, combustible dust, water and other contaminants.
Adjustable positioning and mounting options are available for the flexible and oversized conduit box, simplifying installation. The tough frame of Crush+ is available in NEMA 440 to 580 sizes, and its 4140 steel shaft reduces the risk of damage when holding high-stress loads.
Crush+ is compatible with the ABB Ability Smart Sensor, allowing for proactive maintenance and digital powertrain monitoring in hazardous environments and withstanding vibrations, dust and water. It is certified for ATEX, IECEx and NEC500 to meet the standards for explosive atmospheres.
Earlier this year, ABB pledged its decarbonisation and electrification efforts and deployed the first fully battery-electric truck trolley system with Kristineberg mine’s operator Boliden and equipment manufacturer Epiroc.
