Siemens’ AI-powered Lifecycle Assessment software to advance sustainable product development

Siemens has expanded its Teamcenter software with AI-powered LCA capabilities

Siemens Digital Industries Software has expanded its Teamcenter software for product lifecycle management with the addition of AI-powered Lifecycle Assessment (LCA) capabilities

This expansion is part of Siemens' wider strategy to deliver intelligence across the product lifecycle by utilising the digital twin and robust data foundation to provide contextual insights to improve every stage of the product and process.

Teamcenter Sustainability Lifecycle Assessment software enables designers, engineers, and manufacturers to leverage AI and supply chain data, thereby developing sustainable, compliant, and innovative products more efficiently.

Frances Evans, senior vice president, Lifecycle Collaboration Software, Siemens Digital Industries Software, said, "Driving the development of products with sustainability at the core while maintaining speed, cost efficiency, and regulatory compliance requires radically expanded lifecycle intelligence to be available across the entire manufacturing organisation."

Evans added, "As industrial companies face challenging global compliance requirements and the need to reduce environmental impact, we are enabling our customers to leverage AI to design for sustainability, enable circularity, and optimise material choices from the start. With the full suite of lifecycle assessment capabilities from cradle to end of life in Teamcenter, our customers can transform product innovation with real-time environmental data."

Teamcenter Sustainability Lifecycle Assessment was developed in collaboration with Makersite and is just one of the various ways Siemens is using industrial data from the digital twin to discover new insights.

Following the addition of AI-powered, predictive LCA data and analysis capabilities to Teamcenter, Siemens is adding a new layer of lifecycle intelligence to provide deeper insights for fully informed design and manufacturing decisions.

The Teamcenter Sustainability Lifecycle Assessment solution allows engineering and manufacturing teams to examine a product’s environmental compliance, supply chain risk and cost throughout the product’s lifecycle.

Product teams can access ISO-compliant LCA reports, with an overview of indirect greenhouse gas emissions, Scope 2 and Scope 3, in early product development to enhance the sustainability, compliance, and profitability of products.

Users can also examine the results of multi-criteria simulation embedded into the product's bill of materials in Teamcenter to assist with better trade-offs between cost, performance, and sustainability factors.

Neil D'Souza, CEO and Founder, Makersite, said, "The collaboration between Makersite and Siemens brings product lifecycle intelligence directly into core development workflows. By integrating with Siemens’ Teamcenter, we deliver precise, detailed insights on cost, compliance, risk, and environmental performance – right within an engineer’s everyday tools, from early product design to manufacturing bills of materials. This integration helps accelerate the creation of affordable, safe, and sustainable products, enhances product master data, and makes it easier for companies to stay ahead of growing compliance requirements.”
