Rutland Plastics first started out injection moulding back in 1956. The company has grown significantly over the years, however, it is still a family-run business and continues to operate from its site in Oakham, Rutland. Rutland Plastics offers a full range of plastic injection moulding services and has a suite of over 30 moulding machines on site ranging from 50 tonnes to 1700 tonnes and, through this extensive range, has the ability to produce mouldings from 1g to 48kg in weight, up to 1.5m in size. Rutland Plastics works with customers from almost all industry sectors from medical to consumer, construction to automotive and utilities.
Rutland Plastics always works in partnership with its customers and offers advice and expert knowledge at every stage from design for manufacturing, tooling and production. Its expertise, flexibility, and advanced facilities allow Rutland Plastics to deliver comprehensive solutions, including additional services such as machining, printing, assembly, and warehousing. Due to the wide variety of industries and customers that Rutland Plastics serve they have the experience of processing most injection moulded polymers. This includes prime material, reprocessed plastic, glass-filled polymers and mineral/talc filled material. In addition, they use a range of material additives and masterbatches including flame retardants, anti-microbials and blowing agents. Furthermore, they undertake a significant amount of insert and outsert moulding.
A cloud-based ERP system underpins the company’s operations, ensuring full traceability and flexibility. Rutland Plastics can produce to order or align with customer schedules. To optimize cost and efficiency, the company offers bulk manufacturing, with the option to store mouldings for later call-off as needed.
Rutland Plastics places a strong emphasis on sustainability and environmental responsibility. Its production processes are designed to minimize environmental impact supported by an ongoing self-funded sustainability program. Initiatives include the installation of 900 photovoltaic panels on its warehouse roof and the use of REGO-certified electricity, demonstrating a commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and preserving natural resources.
The company’s dedication to quality and excellence is reflected in its numerous accreditations. It has held Investors in People status since 1995 and has achieved certifications for Quality Management (ISO 9001), Medical Devices Quality Management (ISO 13485), and Environmental Management (ISO 14001). Rutland Plastics is also a proud member of the BPF, GTMA, and Make UK, and holds SEDEX certification.
At Rutland Plastics we work in partnership from initial concept, through the injection moulding design stage using 3D CAD and Moldex3D to the making of the injection mould tool. All through that process, we share our expertise with customers and together we optimise the choice of plastic material, physical shape, ease of production, cost and performance. We advocate that you take the opportunity to tap into this technical support early in the process because it helps de-risk the project thus avoiding costlier modifications at a later stage.
Rutland Plastics has the capability to produce large part injection mouldings up to 48kg in weight and size of 1.5m. With decades of large part experience, we routinely custom manufacture complex large injection moulded parts requiring precision, functionality and aesthetic qualities. We have particular expertise in thick section moulding; in some cases, in excess of 100mm. Operations are supported by a wide range of value-added services, including large part assembly and secondary operations.
Based in Oakham in Rutland, we certainly look different today from when the company first started out injection moulding in 1956. Expansion has continued on the same site and the factory floor area now exceeds 7000 square metres. We employ over 140 staff, with a turnover in excess of £15 million.
Our on-site toolroom is equipped with the latest machinery and this, coupled with the experience and know-how of our team, provides a comprehensive suite of tooling services from design, tooling modifications through to routine maintenance and refurbishment of injection mould tools. We are proud members of the GTMA, a UK-based trade association representing leading companies in precision engineering, rapid product development, toolmaking, tooling technologies, metrology and other critical manufacturing related products and services.
Our factory is equipped with over 30 modern, energy efficient injection moulding machines, many with robots, supported by ancillary equipment suitable for up-to-date plastic moulding techniques. You as a customer benefit from quicker tool changes, consistency in the quality and performance of your plastic products and components and more efficient production which in turn results in cost effective injection moulded solutions.
