The company will showcase its tools at the upcoming WindEnergy show
Global engineering and automated subsystems manufacturer Regal Rexnord Corporation will demonstrate its new tools for wind turbine servicing at WindEnergy 2024 in Hamburg via its brand and specialist breaking solutions provider Svendborg Brakes.
The new tools look to demonstrate how companies can effectively improve the performance and value of existing infrastructure and equipment. These tools accelerate and simplify onshore and offshore wind turbine maintenance.
A single turbine can have up to 20 individual brakes, most of these are located well above ground level and can weigh between 60kg to 200kg. This tool allows brake changeovers to be completed up the tower by winching units up and down as needed.
In the event a brake does not need to be replaced entirely, Svendborg Brakes disk resurfacing tools can repair the brake with a mobile, lightweight single-axis CNC (Computer Numerical Control) milling machine that maps the disc surface and creates a program to remove any defects. Once work is completed, optimal brake performance is restored.
Specifically formulated recipes can be created to create brake pads most appropriate for the application required. Once a product is created, it has rigorous testing to prevent any malfunctioning occurring in operation.
This benefits the operator as no nacelle replacement is required. Repairing rather than replacing the brake pad is also a more sustainable method of maintaining the turbine.
Maintaining existing wind infrastructure is important due to the costs of building new fleets of wind farms. Svendborg launches its yaw brake lifting and installation tool to simplify the replacement of yaw brakes.
The tool has already been implemented on the coasts of Denmark and the UK, allowing wind farms to replace a large amount of damaged yaw brakes in three days (a day and a half of downtime for the turbines), a cost effective solution for the operator.
Hydraulic rotors, yaw braking solutions, brake pads, yaw discs, hydraulic power units and cooling systems are all offered as aftermarket support.
