Founder and AITAD CEO Viacheslav Gromov shares his vision of a future of artificial intelligence (AI) in aviation, and how embedded AI can transform the world of aviation in the near future.
Gromov sees 2030 as being guided by LiDAR sensors (AKA Time-of-Fight sensors) from the moment you enter the terminal to when the plane takes off. Fully automated systems allow for a much faster and more efficient experience, with check-in and baggage drops being operated by voice command or even gestures.
There are a series of AI and technological advancements to improve overall processes. These include car parking automation, and automated check-ins via apps or digital carpets that can scan people's shoes to increase security.
This technology removes the need for excessive staff and does not lead to any issues if good staff can not be found. Embedded AI can better uphold data privacy, as there is no room for human error or potential leaks. Embedded AI is only vulnerable to cyber-attacks, which current systems also are.
Moving past baggage drop, AI is still extremely useful in security processes. Advanced Near InfraRed (NIR) sensors can enhance checks, with the ability to measure stress levels significantly more accurately than XRAY-CT detectors.
AI can also be paired up with behavioural data, allowing the sensors to quickly and accurately detect unusual behaviour and suspicious activity. This can notify staff of individuals who may need further investigating.
Gromov believes embedded AI “promises unmatched precision and speed” in baggage handling. Predictive maintenance capabilities can ensure parts are fixed before any malfunctions occur. This is part of Gromvo’s “unfathomable” logistic systems.
By predicting maintenance, it prevents stoppages or breaks in function, whilst also reducing labour costs and granting a quicker service.
Aircraft can also benefit from embedded AI, as real-time sensors can provide feedback on engine performance and fuel levels, allowing pilots to make informed choices. Creating efficient resource maintenance cycles can reduce costs and prevent any failures in service, making its operation reliable.
Autonomous support functions can prove beneficial to both customers and staff. The speed and efficiency customers will be able to move through an airport without much hassle will improve their experience greatly. Pilots being provided accurate real-time information will help them make the best possible decision, and security staff being alert to possible suspects will make security checks more rigorous and safer.
