Wolfson Centre offers pneumatic conveying systems training

Mike Bradley and Atul Sharma will lead courses to educate engineers

Wolfson Centre will be hosting three different pneumatic conveying systems training for engineers at both entry and advanced levels. 

Mike Bradley, an engineer with 40 years of experience in pneumatic technology, will host a course to educate process engineers on pneumatic conveying systems at the University of Greenwich’s Medway campus in Chatham.

Consultant engineer Atul Sharma will assist Bradley with the course, providing students with two experts to learn from.

Pneumatic conveying subjects alone have attracted 200 to the Wolfson Centre courses. The next two months will see basic and advanced courses for engineers responsible for maintaining or designing pneumatic conveying systems.

29th-31st October 2024 – pneumatic conveying of bulk materials

Established upon request from the Department of Trade and Industry in 1981, this course provides engineers with current industrial practices and new technology developments.

System components, design techniques, operations, control of blow tank systems, explosion hazards and operational problems are covered in the course. Interfacing storage bins with conveying systems is also highlighted, as it can be neglected by industry.

13th-14th November 2024 – pneumatic conveying systems design: Advanced course

Knowledge of the most up-to-date pipeline designs which work reliably and deliver the required throughput without unplanned maintenance with no negative impact on the material’s quality.

Traditionally companies use different design equations and assumptions, these could be affected by the new information and improved methods in recent years. Design details such as stepped bore sizes and bends could be affected by the advancements in measurements of material conveying properties.

27th November 2024 – rotary valves; design, selection and operational use

Explosion isolation, atmospheric isolation, feed metering and feeding pneumatic conveying pipelines tasks are widely solved by rotary valves. Thousands of combinations exist for these valve feature options including choice of materials of construction, rotor type, drive type, venting arrangements, bearing pattern, seal choice, clearances and cleaning features.

This wide range of choices can confuse engineers on what to specify. This course is designed to help engineers understand the different reasons for options and which ones to select.
