New high-performance solution for removal of organic and inorganic contaminants

Atmospheric pressure plasma technology company Plasmatreat GmbH is expanding its portfolio with HydroPlasma. The company is launching a solution for gentle, intensive, and efficient removal of stubborn contaminants from glass, plastics, and metal surfaces.

The new technology uses Openair-Plasma technology and combines it with the chemical reactivity of water to create a new standard in surface preparation for subsequent production steps.

Automotive, electronics, aerospace, medical, and other high-tech industries need clean surfaces to succeed. The smallest contamination can impair adhesion in subsequent processes, including bonding, printing, painting, or coating. This would undercut the quality of the product.

Conventional cleaning processes use solvents or complex wet chemical processes. Plasmatreat looks to offer an alternative to this, being HydroPlasma. The technology works without chemicals, using just compressed air, electricity, and water.

The solution is environmentally friendly, reliable, and economical whilst hoping to set a new standard in industrial surface cleaning. HydroPlasma increases the effectiveness of proven Openair-Plasma technology.

Inorganic residues such as fingerprints can be removed using the new HydroPlasma. Companies have a highly effective and resource-efficient alternative to conventional cleaning methods.

Ionised water is used to remove stubborn contaminants such as oil, salt, and grease. No chemicals are required in the process, making it environmentally friendly. The cleaning effect is similar to detergent in warm water, reliably dissolving and removing residues.

Water is directly injected into the plasma jet, where it is ionised and converted into a highly reactive jet. The jet is then directed by a specifically designed nozzle onto the desired substrate surface.

A high-voltage arc is used to ionise a processed gas, creating the plasma jet which is then put through a specially adapted nozzle to micro-clean surfaces with pinpoint accuracy.  The plasma treatment increases the surface energy.

Treatment using plasma can also improve industrial processes such as bonding, painting, printing, sealing, and coating. It can be used as a pre-treatment process and is sufficient in this function.

Openair-Plasma on its own is not enough for ultra-fine cleaning, but HydroPlasma is and compliments the use of Openair-Plasma. Both processes are VOC-free, helping companies achieving their environmental goals.
