CAN-FD enables faster data transmission by using flexible data rates
Chell Instruments' range of high-performance miniature pressure scanners now supports CAN-FD and classic CAN as standard
CAN-FD (Controller Area Network Flexible Data-Rate) is a modernised protocol that enables faster data transmission by utilising flexible data rates to improve efficiency and responsiveness.
Jamie Shanahan, director of Chell Instruments, said, "Adding CAN-FD is a game-changer for the data transfer of our products' precision measurements, so we are excited to be using it in our latest range of pressure scanners, including the nanoDAQ and microDAQ3. With even better data transfer speeds and larger message payloads, our scanners can capture even faster and more reliable pressure data."
Developed as a response to rising industry demand for improved efficiency, CAN-FD offers data transfer rates up to five times faster than traditional CAN, as well as larger frame and message sizes.
CAN and CAN-FD are crucial to the development of modern high-performance vehicles due to their high-speed and high-capacity data transfer rates.
Chell's range initially offered its devices with the standard CAN protocol, but has now been developed to include CAN-FD.
Shanahan said, "Our automotive and aerodynamics clients in motorsport require the utmost accuracy as the slightest deviation can impact vehicle design, handling and performance. That's why we have now enhanced our pressure scanners with CAN-FD, enabling enhanced real-time monitoring of critical vehicle parameters and aerodynamic testing."
He added, "We never stand still and staying at the forefront of pressure, vacuum and gas flow and control instrumentation means we're continually enhancing products to meet the evolving demands of modern test environments. From precision-engineered pressure scanners to CAD-FD communication, we're proud to set the standard for performance and innovation in measurement technology."
