GearTorq introduces a new motor form factor
Alva Industries is set to launch GearTorq, a new series of frameless motors developed for geared applications and actuator systems
Expanding on Alva’s proprietary FiberPrinting manufacturing technology, GearTorq introduces a new motor form factor to help maximise the use of available length in existing geared actuation designs.
Compared with Alva’s SlimTorq series, GearTorq motors feature a longer design, enabling engineers to create more compact, power-dense actuator solutions.
Combining a compact outer form factor with a large inner diameter allows gear sets to be mounted within the motor’s centre, rather than only in series, as is conventionally done. This design helps engineers to optimise packaging constraints while maintaining high performance.
GearTorq also provides the core performance characteristics that actuator designs demand, including excellent torque density, no torque saturation, and high peak torque capabilities. These attributes enable compact, power-dense actuator designs for a range of geared applications.
The initial GearTorq launch includes three sizes:
- 39mm outer diameter
- 64mm outer diameter
- 88mm outer diameter
The series is also available with different winding options and offers customisation, enabling the motor to be adapted to specific application requirements.
With the launch of GearTorq, Alva now offers two complementary frameless motor series:
- SlimTorq: for applications requiring a compact axial footprint.
- GearTorq: for geared applications and actuator systems where available length can be utilised to maximise performance and integration.
The two motor series provide engineers with greater flexibility when designing next-generation motion systems.
