Comemso electronics GmbH has introduced Easy Chester Ultimate, a mobile test system designed to combine functional, communication and electrical safety testing of electric vehicle charging infrastructure in a single unit.
The system is intended for commissioning, maintenance, repair and periodic inspection of charging stations, supporting AC, DC CCS and CHAdeMO systems. By integrating testing functions that would traditionally require multiple instruments, comemso aims to simplify field testing while providing a common process for measurement, analysis and documentation.
Easy Chester Ultimate incorporates a 10.1-inch touchscreen that guides technicians through selected test procedures. Measurements, communication sequences and results are captured in a configurable PDF report, creating a single record of the tests performed. Despite its expanded functionality, the system weighs 15.7kg, making it lighter than its predecessor.
“Standards define what charging infrastructure must deliver. Our customers define how testing should feel. Easy Chester Ultimate brings both together. Built for standards. Designed for people,” said Dr.-Ing. Kiriakos Athanasas, CEO of comemso electronics GmbH.
The tester approaches electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) verification from three perspectives: the grid side, the vehicle-facing interface and the complete charging process. This is intended to help engineers identify faults that may not be apparent from functional testing alone. For example, a charging station can establish communication correctly while still exhibiting an electrical safety issue, or be electrically compliant while failing to initiate or terminate a charging session reliably.
Depending on configuration, Easy Chester Ultimate can perform functional tests on AC, DC CCS and CHAdeMO charging stations, as well as Control Pilot and Proximity Pilot testing. Its communication capabilities include PLC testing and SLAC analysis, alongside digital charging communication according to DIN 70121, ISO 15118-2 and ISO 15118-3.
The system can also simulate defined faults on CP, PP and PE lines and verify charging-station responses to insulation faults. Electrical safety testing covers both the grid-side and vehicle-facing interfaces, with functions including protective conductor resistance, insulation resistance, residual voltage, residual current devices, insulation monitoring and loop impedance. Voltage and current measurements are also supported.
A structured four-stage workflow takes users through connection, selection of the charging standard and test process, execution of safety, functional and communication tests, and analysis and documentation of deviations. Status indicators and measurement values are presented through the touchscreen, while individual test steps receive “Passed” or “Failed” assessments.
The system supports AC Type 1 and Type 2, CCS Combo 1 and Combo 2, NACS according to SAE J3400, and CHAdeMO, depending on configuration. Wireless firmware updates, integrated device checks and optional remote support are also available.
Optional extensions include a Long Duration Unit for extended charging cycles and analysis of time-dependent faults, while external DC loads enable higher-power charging tests over longer periods.
The Easy Chester family has been available since 2016 and is used by charging equipment manufacturers, operators, installers, testing organisations and service technicians. Easy Chester Ultimate extends the platform by combining a wider testing scope with guided operation and integrated reporting in a portable field system.
