Expro utilised its Gen III cement head to set the world record
Expro, a provider of energy services, achieved a world record by deploying the heaviest casing string to date, using its Blackhawk Gen III wireless top drive cement head with Skyhook technology. The record was achieved on a project in the Gulf of America for a super major
The operation was conducted on the Transocean Deepwater Titan, an eighth-generation ultra-deepwater drillship, with a maximum hook load of 2.849 million pounds. The casing deployment exceeded all prior offshore records.
The Expro Blackhawk Gen III top-drive cement head is ideal for rotating while cementing drill pipe-deployed casing strings or liners. When combined with the Skyhook cement line make-up device, the wireless cement heads can improve the safety of cementing operations by eliminating the need for personnel above the rig floor.
Expro's Blackhawk Gen III cement head was pivotal in achieving the record. Differing from systems that need derating under high-pressure conditions, the Gen III system was able to maintain full performance and structural integrity throughout the operation.
The operator's project is one of the most technically demanding well construction campaigns, facing casing high tensile hook loads resulting from deep casing set points. The operation required a cementing solution engineered for harsh environments.
