The FLIR Si2x-Series is used for high-performance acoustic imaging in hazardous environments
The FLIR Si2x-series, designed for high-performance acoustic imaging in hazardous locations, enabling the reliable detection of pressurised gas leaks, mechanical faults, and partial discharge in explosive vapour and dust environments, now holds ATEX and IECEx certifications
The IECEx-certified version of the Si2x from FLIR, a Teledyne Technologies company, has an industrial acoustic imaging camera purpose-built for professional inspectors who need fast and accurate detection of compressed air and gas leaks in hazardous environments.
The FLIR Si2x is engineered for safe operation in explosive atmospheres while delivering excellent performance and usability, reflected in its certification to both ATEX and IECEx standards.
In industrial sectors such as chemical processing, oil and gas, and pharmaceuticals, costly issues like compressed air and pressurised gas leaks, mechanical faults, and partial discharge are common, meaning safety and reliability are of high importance.
Maintenance professionals can use the FLIR Si2x to identify these issues with precision and speed, even in environments where traditional tools are not permitted.
Key features include:
- The Si2x is fully certified for use in hazardous locations, so safe and reliable inspections are possible in explosive atmospheres
- A highly sensitive microphone array delivers pinpoint accuracy for fault detection up to 200m away
- Instantly view leak size, estimated annual cost, and partial discharge severity, enabling prioritisation of repairs and fast ROI. Data can be used to support ESG and sustainability reporting initiatives
- The bandpass filter is customisable, so users can target specific ultrasonic frequencies, making it possible to detect leaks even in noisy environments
- Integrated with a 12MP visual camera with 8x zoom and built-in LED lighting, helps users capture detailed contextual images
- The Si2x is lightweight, compact, and can be operated with one hand
- Use Wi-Fi, USB, or the new secure data transfer cable to move images and analytics to FLIR Thermal Studio or FLIR Acoustic Viewer. Support for Over-The-Air (OTA) firmware updates ensures continuous improvement and compatibility
Darrell Taylor, Global Acoustic Business Development Manager at FLIR, said: “The Si2x is a breakthrough for inspectors who need high-performance acoustic imaging in the most safety-critical environments.”
“It empowers teams to work safely and efficiently, detect leaks faster, and reduce energy waste — all while meeting the industry’s most demanding standards. With its rugged design, precision performance, and intuitive operation, the Si2x is built to handle real-world challenges.”
The Si2x is available in two versions: the Si2x-LD, for detecting pressurised gas leaks and mechanical faults, and the Si2x-Pro, which has all the capabilities of the LD model with the added ability to identify partial discharge. All other features remain the same.
