The company will demonstrate new batteries aimed at several lifecycle stages
Sealing provider Freudenberg Sealing Technologies will showcase its automotive battery life cycle solutions at the 2024 Battery Show in Detroit, USA, with its new developments aimed at cell manufacturing, module and battery systems development and battery system vehicle integration.

Advanced thermal barriers, prismatic battery cell caps and prismatic envelopes are all set to be unveiled and demonstrated at the show.
Battery protective covers and mats can be used as thermal barriers, preventing thermal propagation throughout the battery and containing thermal runaway. The thermal barriers are created using materials that are resistant to high-temperature venting gases and can endure abrasive conditions. These materials also need to be insulant to electricity.
Last year, 3D thermal barriers made of high-temperature resistance plastics and elastomers were produced by Freudenberg sealing technologies. These barriers are used as a shield to protect critical components during thermal runaway events. These feature customisable geometries to allow for various positions within the battery.
Performance and safety have been improved with the new design for the battery cell cap, featuring an elastomeric sealing solution for prismatic and cylindrical battery cell manufacturers. This design follows regulations and can withstand short-term high-temperature loads.
Collaboration with cell manufacturers has allowed the cells to be created in accordance with automotive standards. The cells are manufactured on the site floor, creating local market-specific requirements whilst lowering carbon footprint.
A drop-in cell envelope solution for optimising battery performance has also been developed. This is comprised of innovative nonwoven materials which wrap the cell stack films. This is to create efficient, durable and high-performance cell manufacturing.

Busbar flame protection and sealing solutions, gaskets, heatshield products and the DIAvent intelligent pressure compensation family of elements will all also be on display at the show, with questions being able to be answered by staff in attendance.
