New USB power delivery charger is fitted with revolutionary charging capabilities

Next-generation charging technology company Salom Europe Limited has unveiled its collaboration with Iontra, resulting in 100W USB Power Delivery (PD) wall charger that enables up to two times longer life cycle and faster charging for most batteries using USB and PD chargers.

Jeff Granato, Iontra’s Co-founder and CEO, said: “The world has been swiftly adopting USB power delivery for charging millions of products. The charger Salom and Iontra are releasing later this year is very different from the USB chargers in use today. We are very excited to be able to partner with a leading power supply and charger manufacturer relied upon by many global brands.”

Granato continued: “Salom and Iontra have done the hard work so that product OEMs can deliver dramatically better battery performance in their next product launch after just making a simple software change. The added benefits are improved customer experience and a positive impact on the environment. The introduction of this charger will be a big step for Iontra to achieve our mission of becoming the default charging standard in the industry.”

The new technology will be deployed in advanced charging technology in core applications, such as e-mobility for safe charging, portable personal care products for safe charging, and commercial drones for cycle life.

The initial release will be the 100W USB PD wall charger, with 240W chargers using a 3.1 standard USB to be rolled out later. These chargers will be able to support all battery-operated applications and associated value delivery through simple software configuration.

Granato added: "This is the first of many innovations on our roadmap that will differentiate our solutions by combining the unique technologies and capabilities from our two companies," said Steve Hawes, Managing Director at Salom Europe Limited. “This first charger will offer significant advantages to our customers by maximizing battery charge performance and cycle life, as well as enabling them to accelerate their sustainability goals. It also supports traditional CCCV charging methods, providing compatibility with all battery-operated devices that charge over USB PD.”

Iontra and Salom will be at the International Battery Seminar and Exhibit to showcase a range of products. Iontra’s new Pluto-1S50 Evaluation module will be part of their demonstration, showcasing its capabilities in terms of cycle life.

Adding to this, Veken Pouch Cell, a Pluto-1S50 module will be on display, joined by Salom’s USV-PD charger, which provides Iontra waveforms over USB-C cable to a custom USB-Sink device, to showcase extended cycle life improvement.

The chargers have a consistent 90-minute charge time, with Iontra cell reaching a set limit of 80% usable capacity, which sits at 1,580 cycles. This is much greater than the DC control charged cells, which reached 80% of capacity at 643 cycles, with a charging time up to double that of Iontra’s. Both cells underwent teardown at 75% SOH.

The new chargers will be on display at the International Battery Seminar and Exhibit in Orlando, Florida, between March 17th and 20th at booth 607.
