Lotus unveils Hybrid EV technology: X Hybrid

First European model to be named Eletre X

Lotus has unveiled a breakthrough in its electrification strategy: the introduction of Europe’s first and only hybrid technology capable of providing 952 PS, paired with a combined driving range exceeding 1,200km and up to 350km of pure electric range

This platform, named X Hybrid, is set to make its European debut in the upcoming Lotus Eletre X, expanding the Eletre family and setting a new benchmark for electric-first performance mobility.

The X Hybrid system made its global debut in China, in the local-market SUC known as Lotus For Me, which serves as the reference prototype for the technology.

The Lotus X Hybrid platform has been designed to provide the immediacy and refinement of an EV with the long-distance capability of a hybrid drivetrain. It seamlessly switches between pure EV, series hybrid, and parallel hybrid operation to ensure optimal performance, efficiency, and real-world range.

Mr Qingfeng Feng, CEO of Lotus Tech, said, “With For Me, we are proving that advanced technology must serve the drivers, not replace them, delivering constant performance, total control, and real safety in every condition, so that consumers can enjoy the emotion of driving and the confidence of protecting what matters most. “Quoting the famous Pirelli campaign: ‘Power is nothing without control” That is why our electricfirst hybrid pairs supercar figures, up to 952 PS and 0–100 km/h in 3.3 seconds, with a 900V architecture, ~9 minutes 20–80% fast charging and a 150 kW generator, enabling ~400 km of pure electric freedom and over 1,400 km combined range. The result is effortless performance without range anxiety, every journey, every day.”

X Hybrid is founded on four pillars:

  • Next Technology
  • Extra Power
  • Extreme Charging
  • Extended Range

Eletre X will serve the same purpose for European customers: electric for daily use and hybrid for limitless distance.

NEXT TECHNOLOGY

At the centre of the X Hybrid system is a 150kW generator, capable of producing up to 25kWh per hour under suitable conditions. It can replenish the battery on the move, sustain charging during cruising and support sudden power demands to sustain consistent performance over long distances.

Additional Next‑Technology Highlights

  • Multi-mode, electric-first powertrain with six operating scenarios adapting to speed, SOC, and driver demand.
  • System shifts between pure EV, series hybrid, and parallel hybrid modes to ensure optimal efficiency, responsiveness and real-world usability in every scenario.
  • 900V high-voltage architecture allowing extreme charge/discharge capability and high-speed performance.
  • Advanced thermal management is designed to preserve stable performance in extreme temperatures.

EXTRA POWER

The reference platform contains front and rear PMSM motors for a combined system output up to 700kW/952PS and 935Nm, facilitating 0-100km/h in 3.3s. Even at around 20% battery SOC, the system can deliver up to 550kW in demanding scenarios such as mountain-pass overtakes.

EXTREME CHARGING

The platform supports ultra-fast DC charging from 20% to 80% in nine minutes, enabled by the 900V/6C architecture, complemented by four levels of regenerative braking to recoup energy during everyday driving.

EXTENDED RANGE

Working together, the battery and fuel unlock a combined driving range of over 1,200km. The EV-only range is up to 350km, allowing most daily journeys to be completed  in full-electric mode. The system is underpinned by a 70kWh battery and a 52L fuel tank.

Handling and Chassis

The technology in For Me demonstrates the platform’s ability to provide Lotus handling:

  • 48V active anti-roll bar providing up to 1,400Nm with 10ms response and a target roll angle <1.5°/g
  • Active rear spoiler with four positions generating up to 120kg of downforce depending on mode
  • Brembo 6-piston front brakes, 33.9m 100-0km/h stopping and rapid thermal recovery
  • Dual-chamber air suspension with dual-valve dampers reacting in as little as 2ms, balancing comfort with dynamic control; front double wishbone layout
  • Lotus-developed tyres tailored for wet adhesion and high-speed stability to harness the platform’s up to 952PS potential.

Interior and Technology

  • Optional full Nappa leather interior
  • KEF Reference audio: 23 speakers, 2,160W, 7.1.4 architecture for immersive fidelity
  • PDLC dimming panoramic roof: 10 transparency levels, 2.4m2 area and +30mm headroom benefit vs traditional structures.

European availability

The full European technical specification for Eletre X, including confirmed outputs, charging performance, WLTP range, and chassis configuration, will be confirmed closer to market introduction.

The figures referenced in this release refer to the China-market For Me technical documentation.
