Microchip and Aviva Links achieve ASA-ML interoperability

ASA-ML offers an asymmetric high-speed communications standard to connect cameras, sensors, and displays

The automotive industry is continuing its transition from proprietary automotive serialiser/deserialiser (SerDes) solutions to an interoperable ecosystem established by the Automotive SerDes Alliance and its first open-standard ASA Motion Link (ASA-ML)

OEMs and Tier one suppliers are now implementing ASA-ML because it offers an asymmetric high-speed communications standard to connect the growing number of cameras, sensors, and displays used in In-Vehicle Networking.

Microchip Technology has reached a milestone with Aviva Links, an automotive company that supplies advanced multi-Gigabit vehicle infrastructure for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and In-Vehicle Infotainment (IVI) systems. This showcases that ASA-ML chipsets from various vendors can interoperate to provide scalable and high-speed connectivity. This interoperability between semiconductor suppliers emphasises the viability of the ASA-ML ecosystem and its expanding role in the automotive industry.

The Automotive SerDes Alliance has over 175 members and is actively collaborating to bring ASA-ML-enabled systems to the market, addressing the growth of ADAS and IVI applications.

The ASA-ML standard supports asymmetric high-speed video, control and data transmission of up to 16Gbps, delivering an adaptable and forward-looking solution. To achieve ADAS L2 and L2+ autonomous-level applications, more and more cameras and sensors are being added to vehicles. These applications require the scalability, architectural flexibility, and interoperability benefits of the ASA-ML standard, further enhanced by the availability of multi-vendor, high-bandwidth connectivity solutions that lower reliance on proprietary solutions.

Microchip brought an ASA-ML chipset to market through its acquisition of VSI. The interoperability demonstration with Aviva Links comes after Microchip's partnership to provide an ASA-ML camera-development platform for the Japanese automotive market.
