DeepOcean has expanded its service offering to the offshore renewables and oil and gas industries
Ocean services provider DeepOcean has expanded its service offering to the offshore renewables and oil and gas industries, entering into a time charter agreement for the support vessel Glomar Supporter
DeepOcean will leverage the Glomar Supporter to advance its offering in the survey, inspection, light inspection, maintenance and repair (IMR) markets for developers and operators of offshore wind farms, as well as in the oil and gas sector.
Øyvind Mikaelsen, CEO of DeepOcean, said, “We already have a large fleet of offshore vessels, but we have actively been looking for smaller vessels that can provide an even more cost-effective offering, particularly in the offshore renewables space. We decided to seize the opportunity when we heard that the Glomar Supporter became available.”
The Glomar Supporter will join DeepOcean's vessel fleet in January 2026, with its first operations planned in Europe. DeepOcean has chartered the vessel from Glomar Offshore B.V.
The Glomar Supporter was built in 2009 and has a track record of safe and efficient operations, and underwent a rebuild and refurbishment in 2021. The vessel is 60 metres with a combined deck space of 497 square metres, equipped with DP2 station-keeping capabilities and has a carrying capacity of 1,395 tonnes DWT.
The vessel features a main stern A-frame for deploying and towing multiple sensor types, including seismic equipment, as well as several survey sensors and additional technologies, such as multibeam echo sounders (MBE).
The Glomar Supporter has a dedicated launch area for geotechnical equipment and a mezzanine deck for a launch and recovery system (LARS), suited for work-class ROV operations.
DeepOcean will mobilise one of its work-class ROVs (WROV) on the vessel. The company will also consider mobilising an observation-class ROV (OROV).
