Emerson’s new PACSystems safety controller allows SIL2 designs with pre-built templates to gain reliable performance in demanding applications
Emerson has announced its new PACSystems RX3i CPS400 safety controller, designed to enable Safety Integrity Level 2 (SIL2) strategies for infrastructure, burner management systems, fire and gas, and other emergency shutdown systems
The new controller is a compact, high-performance solution with durable security measures and a scalable architecture with 2,000I/O points available, suitable for complex projects with evolving needs.
With project automation becoming more sophisticated and data-driven, OEMs and systems integrators require a range of stronger hardware and software products, ensuring compliance standards and regulations to protect workers, regardless of whether it is a single piece of equipment or distributed throughout a much larger process.
The new controller has a 64-megabyte memory capacity and scalable digital architecture to support a wide range of mission-critical applications. Using built-in industrial communications protocols, including OPC UA, Ethernet Global Data (EGD), and Modbus TCP, the RX3i CPS400 controller is primed to connect peer-to-peer as well as with higher-level hosts, providing complete operational visibility.
The RX3i CPS400 is designed to be secure, using Secure Boot and the Trusted Platform Module (TPM) standard, it delivers rigorous data integrity and protection against any potential threats. In line with the IEC 61511 standard, safety-certified function blocks and pre-configured templates simplify overall system certification.
Available in both simplex and redundant controller configurations, the new controller can perform all safety data messaging with duplex communications using the black channel principle over EGD, enabling standardised and reliable connectivity with Emerson's PACSystems VersaMax SafetyNet I/O system. The platform is IEC 61508 safety-certified, offering a capable SIL2 simplified solution to help designers build appropriate protection schemes.
The new controller can be configured by designers using familiar software tools employed by 1/3 programmable logic controllers (PLC), operator interfaces, and other automation elements, notably Emerson's PAC Machine Edition development environment.
The PAC Machine Edition suite is a unified tool with a user-friendly interface, designed to streamline development efforts so that users can easily create complete and integrated automation, visualisation and safety solutions for quicker startups and maximum operating efficiency.
