Omron claims its new switching capacity power relay is the smallest in industry
Electronics company Omron has released its 55A power relay with switching capacity, which the company claims to be the smallest in industry, the G6QG. The new high power PCB relay requires 51% less mounting space compared with similar 480VAC 55A relays.
It weighs 18g and needs 488mm2 to be fitted. The relay can contribute towards space savings and provide high voltage and current endurance, being well suited to high voltage energy infrastructure applications, including electric vehicles and photovoltaic inverters.
The G6QG is capable of high capacity switching with a contact rating of 480VAC, 55A regardless of its small size and low height. Solar power generation standard IEC62109 is met by the devices large contact gap of minimum 2mm. Improved insulation between contacts is also built in.
Between coil and contact, the G6QG is capable of 10kV high withstand voltage. Coil power consumption is reduced by roughly 12% of rated voltage as its coil holding voltage can be applied to 35-50% of rated coil voltage. At a overall power consumption of 1400mW, 172mW is saved at a coil holding voltage of 35%.
The relay is 33% lower and 50% lighter than similar products on the market. This enables energy infrastructure equipment designers to make smaller and lighter boards and devices or create more space for additional capacity or functionality.
The G6GG can be used for solar power generation systems, inverters for solar and energy storage, electric vehicle charging stations, industrial inverters, home appliances, and other industrial equipment.
