Sulzer unveils new booster pump based on reverse osmosis

New booster pump is designed for desalination plants

Sulzer has unveiled its new ZF-RO booster pump for providing seawater reverse osmosis plants with water supply. The optimised pump is efficient and reliable matching technical requirements of an energy recovery device booster pump service.

The ZF range’s reliable design was used as inspiration for the new pump, combining this with the the hydrocarbon and desalination industries references for efficiency. The new pump allows plants to continue to provide freshwater to communities that are struggling to find supplies.

Reverse osmosis is being used to treat seawater and create a cost-effective water supply for communities where freshwater is a diminishing resource and difficult to acquire. Consumers pay directly in line with cost of production. Optimisation of efficiency makes overall running costs cheaper, as both maintenance and waste costs are reduced.

ZF-RO’s launch adds to Sulzer’s existing range of pumps specifically designed for desalination operation use. The latest rendition is tailored for delivering seawater or similar liquids across a range of performance. Flexibility is offered by the pumps ability to operate with a variety of speed drives, allowing process specifications to  be met by energy recovery devices.

ZF-RO pumps are fully configured to ensure minimal delivery times and extended service life, based on research from previous hydrocarbon products. State-of-the-art hydraulic and mechanical design has improved efficiency, making overall cost of fresh water cheaper.

Super duplex stainless steel is used to manufacture the pump, with excellent protection against erosion and corrosion. The pumps features high reliability. The pump is compact and easily installable due to its small footprint, allowing for more space inside the plant.
