This year’s exhibition will focus on sustainability through electrification, hydrogen power and wind energy
Advanced Engineering 2024 is approaching and numerous developers, suppliers, manufacturers and consultants will gather to present their innovations and forge partnerships.
“A common theme that flows through a lot of these demonstrations is sustainability – whether it's through electrification, hydrogen power or wind energy, said Alison Willis, the CEO of Easyfairs UK & Global and the organiser of Advanced Engineering.
“These innovations are not only shaping the future of our industries but also addressing the urgent need for cleaner, greener solutions too. We look forward to seeing how they will inspire people to work in STEM, while ensuring knowledge exchange and collaboration.”
Many organisations are focussing on the electrification of technology, such as manufacturing company Flux Aviation. Formed in 2021, this startup is developing electric propulsion systems to encourage zero-emission aviation. Flux Aviation will debut its electric aircraft prototype on the show floor at this year’s exhibition.
Also approaching the topic of zero-emission flight is developer ZeroAvia. The company will present its hydrogen electric powertrain and fuel cell demonstrators, showing that the common electric versus hydrogen debate is oversimplified. In 2020, ZeroAvia flew its first hydrogen-powered commercial aircraft.
The University of Southampton will reveal its contribution to electric motorsport engineering with its student-led electric Formula car. Undergraduates across different disciplines designed, built and tested the university’s fourth-ever electric single-seater race car, which will be on display this year.
Focussing on its electrification retrofit technology is electric vehicle supplier and manufacturer Bedeo. The company will host a live interactive demonstration of its technology through a hands-on exhibit, transforming a van into a fully electric vehicle.
Electrification is not the only sustainable solution on display at Advanced Engineering 2024. The importance of wind-assisted propulsion in marine transport will be addressed by Argo Engineering, which will introduce its DynaProa and FastRig Windwing concepts.
DynaProa explores the potential of zero-emission sail powered passenger transport, and FastRig technology provides propulsive thrust from wind, reducing fuel consumption, GHG emissions and operating costs on commercial vessels using recyclable materials.
Additional technology encouraging efficiency will be on display, including transport manufacturer Ohmio’s autonomous shuttle. This self-driving vehicle is designed to minimise human error and enhance public transport efficiency and safety. Vehicles from Nissan and high-performance automotive engineering company RML will also attend this year’s Advanced Engineering.
Drone and robotic technology, another major force in increasing efficiency, will make an appearance. Markforged reseller of high-end 3D printers Mark3D will present its UAV Sensus drone and Robo Challenge’s Spectre robot.

Advanced Engineering 2024 will take place 30th and 31st October at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre and is open to those who register.
