DeepOcean has been awarded a contract by Tullow Ghana to execute a riser retermination project at the Jubilee field offshore Ghana
The gas riser runs between the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah and the subsea production system at the Jubilee field.
DeepOcean’s EMEA organisation will provide project management, engineering, riser disconnection, deck-side retermination, reconnection, and pre-commissioning services. The company will use the Orient Adventurer subsea construction vessel to perform the offshore operations.
Robin Mawhinney, executive vice president for DeepOcean’s EMEA region, said, “We have successfully deployed the Orient Adventurer on previous subsea construction projects in Ghana and are very familiar with the vessel’s capabilities in the region. The vessel’s vertical lay system (VLS) makes it particularly well suited for the safe and efficient deployment of the risers through the moonpool.”
DeepOcean’s team in Accra, Ghana, and Sète, France, will execute the project, with support from engineering specialists based in Aberdeen, UK. The offshore work will take place in the fourth quarter of 2026.
Øyvind Mikaelsen, chief executive officer at DeepOcean, said, “Riser replacement and reactivation are core competencies of our onshore and offshore teams, and we look forward to supporting Tullow in the successful delivery. Our strong local presence in Accra and Takoradi, combined with DeepOcean’s technical expertise in subsea riser operations, has been instrumental in securing this award.”
Orient Adventurer recently returned to the DeepOcean fleet following an upgrade and refurbishment programme. The vessel is equipped with a 2,500-tonne under-deck carousel and a refurbished Huisman vertical lay system (VSL) with 275-tonne top-tension dynamic capacity, giving DeepOcean additional subsea construction and installation ability once the Tullow campaign is completed.
The contract award reflects DeepOcean’s track record in complex subsea construction and intervention projects, and its long-standing presence in the West-African offshore market. DeepOcean Ghana Limited, an indigenous Ghanaian company operating as a joint venture between DeepOcean and its local partner, will execute the contract.
The Jubilee Field is one of West Africa’s most significant offshore oil developments, located 60km offshore Ghana in water depths of around 1,100m. The field’s production is processed through the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah. The FPSO has a processing capacity of over 120,000 barrels of oil per day and serves as the central hub for offshore production and associated gas handling operations at the Jubilee field.
