Hexagon has partnered with Scania and Fidens to launch the truck, leading to significant gains in the mining industry.
Hexagon has combined its hard-line TeleOp remote technology with Scania’s XT model mining truck to create a new truck, which is expected to have major operational gains and improve production both in Brazil and worldwide.
Rodrigo Couto, President of Latin America Hexagon’s Autonomous Solutions – Mining said: “This is a watershed moment for Brazilian mines” and the company claims this to be the "first-ever" truck of its type in Brazil.
Operators can safely operate the truck from kilometers away, with complete safety. This is possible as the truck is fitted with sensors and cameras, allowing the operator to drive normally but instead in a safe office-like environment.
Couto added: “Because TeleOp is adaptable to other truck models, this is just the beginning of what we know will be a highly impactful and positive transformation for the industry.”
The new truck is significantly improved from the previous, as the hard-line connection means previous drops in connection or delays in response now is no longer a problem and those precious seconds of productive time have been gained back.
Hexagon’s new 8×4 Truck comes just in time, as Brazilian regulators have decided to decommission dams, due to being hazardous. The new truck will be able to be deployed on these sites to help with the decommissioning. The Teleoperation nature of the truck makes it significantly safer to operate in such conditions.
