Charging infrastructure expansion is speeding up with the more electric vehicles (EVs) coming onto the road. Investment is required to ensure the switch from old ICE vehicles to EVs continues without a hiccup, allowing charging to take place anywhere.
DEHN has contributed to the expansion with its latest DEHNguard M DC ACI 1250 FM product, a surge arrester specially developed for HPCs and fast charging station applications, with a capacity of up to 1250V.
The system is also a reliable component in DC battery storage systems. It provides quick and easy commissions whilst having long-term reliability. This is essential for charging station owners, who can not risk faults or safety risks.
The DEHNguard M DC ACI 1250 FM can help protect stations through its design. It features a protection level of 2.5kV and a short-circuit resistance of 100kA. The modular Type 2 arrester is also applicable in battery storage systems. Adding to this, non-response of up to 1200V allows for the normative requirement of IEC 61851-23.
An external backup fuse is not required due to the built-in ACI technology, featuring an integrated switch-spark gap combination. This helps free up space at the charging post. No complex dimensioning of back-up fuses required, nor selectivity and connection cross-sections when designing new charging points.
If a port does become defective, it can be replaced quickly and easily. A floating remote can signal contact on the underside of the devices, giving reliable information on status of the arrester for remote monitoring.
