AI technology will keep wind turbines inspected by Axess Group running smoothly
Wind energy has quickly become one of the main sources of electricity in the UK, producing 32% of the country’s demand. With the UK’s goals to reach net zero, wind energy will become more relevant in the years to come as industry players try to optimise its processes.
Drone developer Nearthlab has prepared for this by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Axess Group, a solution provider for actors in wind energy, oil and gas, marine and infrastructure industries.
Beginning as an inspection company for Norway’s oil and gas industry, Axess Group expanded into the renewable energy sector in 2018, now offering service packages for wind turbine inspections, checks and repairs.

Nearthlab’s drones are equipped with AI technology to conduct inspections of wind turbines. Now that Nearthlab has signed the MoU, its drones will inspect both on and offshore wind turbine sites in Scandinavia and Africa. This inspection data will be managed through Nearthlab’s cloud-based analytics programme Zoomable.
This level of precision and deep learning analysis will maximise the wind turbine inspection process, taking less time and fewer resources to conduct regular checks.
