University of Greenwich will host course on biomass and bulk management storage on 10th of June
The Wolfson Centre will host a course at the University of Greenwich’s Medway campus on the 10th of June to talk about fire prevention and management in biomass and bulk materials storage.
Registration is currently open for the conference being chaired by Professor Michael Bradley, with this being the 4th conference in the ‘silo fires’ series, aiming to promote awareness of fires in silos and flat stores. The conference will share know how on preventing or managing fires in these situations.
The conference will focus on topics that have not been exposed or covered in detail, despite being common. Fires in storage of bulk solids are potentially more common than explosions, but are not regulated by DSEAR and does not receive the same attention.
Case studies will kick off the day, followed with a discussion around current scientific knowledge. The day will round off with advice on how to deal with the aftermath of fires in storage vessels. This will also touch on strategies for safety via design and operations practises.
Confirmation has been given of the presentations, featuring Lynemouth Power with a case study, silo fire ignition sources by Southdowne Solutions, early fire detection in silos by Firefly, silo fire safety 2.0 by Robecco and Thorwestern Vent, and a novel approach to predict self-heating in large biomass stores by the Wolfson Centre.
Tickets cost £200 up until late May 9th 2025, after this the early bird discount ends and prices return to the full fee of £250.
