NKT awarded agreements with N1 to support expansion of Denmark’s power grid

NKT medium-voltage power cables

NKT has been awarded three new framework agreements by N1 to supply low- and medium-voltage power cables up to 72kV. The agreements commenced in Q3 2026 and have an initial duration of six years, with options for additional extensions, and cover an expected annual delivery volume of 700-1000km of power cables

The agreements strengthen NKT’s collaboration with N1, one of Denmark’s largest distribution system operators, and will support the continued expansion and modernisation of the electricity grid. N1 supplies electricity to over 800,000 homes and businesses across its distribution network.

The agreements come at a time of significant investment in Denmark’s electricity infrastructure. Growing electricity consumption, electrification, and the integration of renewable energy are increasing the need to expand and reinforce distribution grids and establish new grid connections.

Carlos Fernandez, executive vice president, head of Distribution at NKT, said, “We are very pleased to continue and strengthen our collaboration with N1 through these long-term framework agreements. Distribution grids are a fundamental part of the energy transition, and the significant investments planned in Denmark over the coming years underline the need for reliable power cable capacity and strong, long-term partnerships. With our expanded production capabilities in Asnaes and our broader European manufacturing footprint, NKT is well positioned to support N1 as it continues to develop the electricity grid for a more electrified future.”

Supporting long-term investment in Denmark’s electricity grid

N1 operates and develops much of the electricity distribution network in Jutland. As part of its responsibilities, the company maintains and expands the grid and connects new electricity consumption and generation.

For NKT, the agreements support the company’s ambition to be a reliable partner to European distribution system operators as they expand and modernise their grids. They also follow the expansion of NKT’s medium-voltage factory in Denmark, where additional production capacity and new testing capabilities have been established to meet demand for power cables across Europe.

A significant share of the power cables covered by the agreements are expected to be manufactured at NKT’s factory in Asnaes, Denmark, with part of the low-voltage supply coming from NKT’s factory in Falun, Sweden.
