A next-gen medium-voltage switchgear solution
Scheider Electric, a global energy technology specialist, has launched its newest power distribution product, MCSeT, in the UK. A next-generation medium-voltage switchgear solution, developed for safe, energy-efficient, and future-ready power distribution in industrial, commercial, and utility applications
In the UK, the need for more resilient and efficient power distribution systems is growing in urgency, as the country's energy usage increases each year, driven by rising demand and accelerated electrification across industry and transport, adding to mounting pressure on ageing network infrastructure.
As the energy system adapts to support net-zero targets, distributed generation, and more variable demand, distribution networks need to be modernised to operate more reliably, flexibly, and intelligently.
Distribution infrastructure also has to incorporate digital capabilities to enhance connectivity, asset visibility, and real-time system management, allowing operators to reduce response times during changing conditions and maintain reliability as networks become more flexible.
The new MCSeT features:
- Powered by the EvoPacT HVX circuit breaker, designed to provide an extended service life for medium-voltage applications. EvoPacT HVX enhances longevity, supporting up to 50,000 mechanical and electrical operations at 12/17.5kV, and 30,000 operations at 24kV. Alongside up to 50 short-circuit breaking operations at normal rated current. It can also reduce the need for breaker replacement and lower overall maintenance requirements.
- MCSeT enables a data-driven maintenance approach. IoT-connected sensors monitor component health and detect up to 63% of potential downtime scenarios. Integrated with Schneider Electric’s digital software and EcoCare services, the system can provide alerts and recommendations to support predictive maintenance, prevent unplanned outages, and reduce maintenance costs by up to 40%.
- Real-time data and connectivity help operators to minimise risk exposure and respond to changing conditions. MCSeT provides early warnings before an issue escalates, enabling key operations to be performed digitally via an HMI or mobile app. This reduces the need for work on live equipment and helps keep operators outside the arc-flash zone, improving safety and operational confidence.
