SECO announced Clea OS v2.0, an evolution of its Yocto-based hardware-agnostic embedded operating system
Version 2.0 will be the default embedded Linux distro for all new SECO hardware products, ensuring a unified foundation for innovation across both Arm and x86 architectures.

It is designed to help Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) accelerate development, comply with emerging cybersecurity regulations, and reduce the total cost of ownership.
This new release model ensures Clea OS is ready for the future of digital product regulation. Version 2.0 provides a clear path to compliance when facing the upcoming enforcement of new legal frameworks, such as the EU's Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) and the Radio Equipment Directive (RED), which prescribe mandatory cybersecurity provisions for connected devices.
In the cybersecurity services package, offered under licence, OEMs can directly address key regulatory requirements, such as the automated generation of a Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) mandated by the CRA, along with integrated vulnerability management and regular security patching. SECO's partnership with Exein, an embedded security company, enables customers with advanced needs to access AI-based solutions for device monitoring and protection.
Clea OS has been designed to support the introduction of a formal Long-Term Support (LTS) model, which will become available with the following updates.
v2.0 will be delivered as a direct update for all SECO hardware devices currently under an active maintenance plan, ensuring a stable and secure software foundation for the duration of the product's lifetime. Quarterly updates will be published in the public code repository, including new features, bug fixes, and CVE patching to address relevant security vulnerabilities.
A CI/CD pipeline manages all changes, tracking and documenting them with detailed release notes to provide complete transparency and simplify maintenance. SECO provides this comprehensive support framework, allowing customers to retain flexibility in adapting their own operating system, managing integration testing, and handling their update lifecycle independently.
