TMC will provide a complete marine compressed air system

TMC Compressors has been awarded a contract by COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry to provide a complete marine compressed air system to SBM Offshore’s newbuild floating storage and offloading (FSO) unit, Chalchi

The FSO Chalchi is to be deployed at the Trion deepwater oil field, offshore Mexico. Its name, Chalchi, is derived from the Aztec water deity, Chalchiuhtlicue, to reflect the project’s connection to Mexico’s heritage.

Under the contract, TMC will deliver a medium-sized marine compressed air system, including compressors to supply instrument and control air on board the FSO. TMC will also supply air dryers and filters to meet the air-quality requirements for various onboard applications.

Hans-Petter Tanum, director of sales and business development at TMC, said, “SBM Offshore demands top-quality equipment lifetime from their suppliers. To be involved in another one of their projects, together with COSCO, both sharpens and excites us. This is an important project for Mexico.”

TMC’s compressors have been developed solely for offshore and marine use, allowing the vessel crew to easily maintain the equipment themselves. They are designed using a technology platform that enables low energy consumption, reduced operating costs, and low air emissions.

The Suezmax-based FSO Chalchi will include a disconnectable turret mooring system developed by SMB Offshore, will be moored at the Trion field at a water depth of 2,500m, and will be capable of storing up to 950,000 barrels of crude oil.
