Industrial equipment to benefit from three-phase brushless DC motor
Electronics provider Toshiba has released its new gate driver ICs for three-phase brushless DC motors. The TB67Z83xxFTG has a 3.3V regulator output whilst the TB67Z85xxFTG has a 5.0V regulator output. Both series are comprised of four devices.
A motor control microcontroller and Mosfets can be combined with the drivers to create a complete system. This has a wide range of applications including pumps, fans, blowers, cordless power tools, gardening tools, and cleaners.
A built-in circuit can drive three phases of high-side and low-side N-channel Mosfets is installed in the drive. The Mosfet drive current ranges from 10mA to 1A for source current and from 20mA to 2A for sink current. External issues such as ambient temperature and power supply voltage can affect the actual useful drive current.
All devices work with a supply voltage (VM) operating range from 8V to 75V. The range in voltage and current combinations allows for use in a variety of applications.
The series comes with the choice between an SPI or hardware control interface. TB67Z83xHFTG and TB67Z85xHFTG devices are internally controlled directly by dedicated hardware pins, this differs from the TB67Z83xSFTG and TB67Z85xSFTG devices which have SPI interface integration to communicate with the devices and control internal functions.
During standby, power consumption is minimised with a 1µA current and standby time is maximised for battery-driven applications. Undervoltage lockout and thermal shutdown are built-in to protect circuitries and further protecting the devices.
The external Mosfet is protected by gate drive abnormality detection and overcurrent protection functions. This improves overall system reliability.
The drives are housed in a QFN40 package and measures 6.0mm by 6.0mm. The devices integrate three channels of current sense amplifiers, allowing them to reduce external component count of the system design.
In the case of an application not needing a current sense amplifier, the TB67Z830SFTG, TB67Z830HFTG, TB67Z850SFTG, and TB67Z850HFTG devices come in a more compact QFN32 package, being 5.0mm by 5.0mm.
All devices are usable in temperatures ranging from 40°C to +125°C, allowing them to be used in most industrial environments.
