Evident Inspection Technologies has introduced the NORTEC 700, a portable eddy current flaw detector designed to combine conventional eddy current testing (ECT) and advanced eddy current array (ECA) capabilities on a single platform.
The new detector is intended for demanding non-destructive testing (NDT) applications, offering high-resolution imaging, portable operation and compatibility with existing inspection equipment. The company says the system was developed using direct user input, with the aim of simplifying inspection workflows while maintaining consistent results.
The NORTEC 700 is available in three configurations. The N700 provides single-frequency eddy current and conductivity testing, while the N700D adds dual-frequency capability and bolt-hole rotary scanning. The higher-specification N700i combines ECT with ECA imaging, automatic layer detection and a dedicated Defect Viewer for bolt-hole and multi-layer inspections.
All three models use the same hardware, interface and digital ecosystem, supporting fleet standardisation and cross-training. The instruments can also be field-upgraded between configurations without being returned to a service centre.
At 1.79kg, the NORTEC 700 is designed for extended field use and inspection in confined areas. A precision control knob enables operation while wearing gloves, while a high-brightness display is designed for visibility in direct sunlight. Application-based presets can automatically configure inspection parameters according to the selected probe and application, reducing setup requirements and the potential for operator error.
Evident has also introduced a new generation of detachable ECA probes, designed to provide consistent performance between probes and simplify calibration. At the same time, the NORTEC 700 remains compatible with existing NORTEC 600 probes, scanners and accessories, allowing inspection teams to retain existing equipment.
The system is available with Freeze Mode across the entire product range, providing a common operating feature regardless of configuration.
Evident describes the NORTEC 700 as, “a streamlined, lightweight flaw detector that’s powerful, intuitive, and instantly easy to use.”
The company adds that, “Next-gen probe technology, high-fidelity imaging, and proven stability deliver precise results across all-day conditions, and a smart, scalable design offers exceptional value without any added complexity.”
The NORTEC 700 and Evident’s wider aerospace inspection portfolio were showcased at the Farnborough International Airshow in July.
