The chiller will be on show at the Annual Automotive EV and HEV Thermal Management Conference
Technical Services is releasing a new R&D chiller with built-in calorimeters at the 5th Annual Automotive EV and HEV Thermal Management Conference in Munich, 12-13 February 2026, where the company is an official sponso
Technical Services has developed an intelligent R&D chiller which enables engineers to accurately understand the thermal management requirements of their application during the development phase. Additional sensing has been added to ensure the chiller is correctly specified for the customer’s application. It can also provide data on system pressures, heat rejection, and power consumption, so engineers can optimise their thermal management balance-of-plant and reduce production bill-of-materials costs.
The chiller is an industry-ready solution that can be leased or purchased from Technical Services. Key benefits of the chiller include:
- Provides accurate data to calculate the precise chiller size required for optimal production efficiency.
- Measures engineering units, including pressure, flow, heat rejection, efficiency, energy consumption, and temperature.
- Enables engineers to be in control of battery systems during the design phase
- Accelerates testing and development timelines
- Characterises systems from the onset and answers unknowns
- Eliminates time-consuming data processing, sensor validations, calibration, and maintenance
- Modular approach integrates with additional cooling loops
The new R&D chiller is pre-programmed, pre-controlled, pre-harnesses, cabled, and gassed. Once the fluid connection is established, the system automatically characterises and sends data to the cloud. It measures and captures the data needed to define thermal management modules for battery and HVAC systems, and specifies the correct chiller size for the application.
Technical Services has created the R&D chiller to prevent guesswork in chiller specification and reduce overspecification, both of which can be detrimental to the product’s lifespan and add unnecessary cost. This module of the cooling system is intrinsically linked to Technical Services’ pump and valve technology.
Andrew McMahon, sales and engineering director, Technical Services, said, “Not knowing the correct size chiller is a common problem for engineers. For example, a 12kW chiller might be purchased, but it may only run at 3kW. We have used our experience to develop the R&D Chiller to provide engineers with all the answers at the beginning of a project, allowing them to go from sample to production with 100% reliability, saving time and money.”
