Siemens has expanded its drive technology portfolio for extra-low-voltage (ELV) applications with the launch of the Sinamics E210 converter and Simotics E-1EE1 servomotors.
Designed for battery-powered mobile systems, the integrated solution targets automated guided vehicles (AGVs), autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) and driverless transport systems.
The combination of converter and motor is intended to simplify drive integration, reduce engineering effort and support the implementation of safety functions in modern mobile platforms. Both components are designed for 24V and 48V applications and integrate into Siemens’ TIA Portal engineering environment and Simove modular system.
Sinamics E210 simplifies mobile drive integration
The Sinamics E210 is a compact regenerative converter developed specifically for battery-powered ELV systems. It provides control of traction and wheel drives, as well as additional motion axes used for steering, lifting and auxiliary functions.
Direct connection to 24V or 48V battery systems eliminates the requirement for additional voltage conversion, helping simplify electrical architectures and improve energy efficiency. The converter also incorporates integrated safety functions, PROFIsafe support and PROFINET IRT communication, enabling integration into higher-level automation and vehicle control systems.
Its compact form factor, flexible installation options and high overload capability are intended to accommodate the demanding operating requirements of mobile machinery, where installation space, dynamic performance and energy consumption are important design considerations.
Integration with TIA Portal and the Simove modular system also provides manufacturers and system integrators with a common engineering environment for configuring and commissioning drive technology within larger vehicle architectures.
Simotics E-1EE1 motors extend ELV performance
Complementing the converter, the new Simotics E-1EE1 servomotors extend Siemens’ ELV motor portfolio into higher power and torque ranges. Available in shaft heights from 40 to 63, the motors are designed for 24V and 48V systems and optimised for dynamic mobile applications.
An absolute 14-bit BiSS-C safety encoder and internal dual-channel design support safety-related applications up to Safety Integrity Level 2 (SIL 2). The motors also incorporate an electronic nameplate, allowing the Sinamics E210 to automatically retrieve relevant motor data. This reduces manual parameterisation and simplifies commissioning.
Additional configuration options include holding brakes, different gearbox arrangements and flexible connection technology, allowing the motors to be adapted to specific vehicle and machine requirements.
Integrated engineering for mobile automation
By combining the converter, servomotors, communication interfaces and safety functions within a coordinated drive solution, Siemens aims to reduce integration complexity for manufacturers developing next-generation intralogistics equipment.
The architecture provides a scalable foundation for AGVs, AMRs and other mobile platforms, with integrated engineering tools supporting the development of automation, motion control and safety systems. Its compatibility with the wider Siemens ecosystem also provides a route for incorporating future automation and cybersecurity requirements.
